With online learning on the rise, many people are wondering if online classes are the right choice for them. Of course, there is no definitive answer and it will depend on a variety of different factors.
While online learning can sound like it’s easier than in-person learning, the reality is that it takes just as much, if not more, time and energy than classroom courses. Here at Broward Community Schools, we offer online classes and we would like to share how to know that online learning is for you.
Three Traits You Need to Succeed at Online Learning
1. Persistence
One of the biggest keys to success when undertaking online classes is persistence. Students who succeed are often those who are willing to tolerate technical difficulties, ask for help when needed, work daily, and persist through difficulties. If you want to succeed, it is recommended that you set up a manageable study schedule for yourself and stick to it.
2. Motivation
When deciding if online learning is right for you, consider your goals. Why do you want to take the courses? Why do you want a degree? Make sure that the benefits of taking the courses outweigh the costs because you do not want to invest something that you don’t end up finishing.
3. Time
Online learning involves just as much time as classroom learning. While there is often no set time for classes, you still will need to set aside the time to watch the video lectures, complete your homework assignments, and study. Students who procrastinate, cannot stick to routine study schedules, or who are not motivated to complete assignments may have trouble with online classes.
